How we help
We Have Internal IT
Your IT person is good. They are also one person, they take holidays, and they cannot be a specialist in everything.
Co-managed means we work alongside your team rather than replacing it. Your people keep what they are best at and closest to: the applications your business runs on, the relationships internally, and the daily judgment calls that need somebody who knows the company.
We take the load that makes an internal team a single point of failure. After-hours and holiday cover, the specialist work that comes up twice a year, project delivery that would otherwise stall the day job, and the monitoring and patching that runs whether or not anybody is in.
Done properly this is not a threat to your IT person, and we are careful about that from the first conversation. The arrangements that fail are the ones set up over somebody's head. We would rather have your internal team in the room while the split is agreed, because they are usually the person who knows where the real gaps are.
This usually sounds familiar
- One person holds knowledge that exists nowhere else.
- Projects stall because the day job always comes first.
- Your team is on call in practice, whatever the arrangement says on paper.
- You need a specialist occasionally and cannot justify hiring for it.
- A compliance requirement has arrived that nobody internally has done before.
What happens next
Step 1
We agree on the split, with your team
Who owns what, written down. The conversation includes your IT person rather than happening above them.
Step 2
We fill the gaps, not the chair
After-hours cover, specialist work, projects, and the background maintenance. Your team keeps the work they are best placed to do.
Step 3
Shared documentation
One record both sides work from, which is also what makes your team less of a single point of failure.
Common questions
Will our IT person feel replaced?
Not if it is set up properly, and that is largely about including them from the start. In our experience the internal person is the first to see the value, because they stop being the only one who can fix anything and get to take a holiday without a laptop.
Who do our staff call?
Whatever you decide, and it is worth deciding explicitly. Some clients keep the first line internal and escalate to us. Others send everything to us and free their person for project work entirely. Both work; the failure is leaving it ambiguous.
Can we start with just one piece?
Yes, and most co-managed arrangements do. After-hours cover and security monitoring are the two most common starting points, because they are the hardest for one person to provide and the easiest to hand over cleanly.
