Field Services
Copier and Printer Repair Technician
You keep client copiers, multifunction devices, and printers running: diagnosing them, repairing them, maintaining them on schedule, and getting them printing and scanning on the network again. Field work across the service area, with the parts, the ticketing, and the follow-through handled properly. Experience repairing office imaging equipment is required.
The job
Every office we support has a fleet of copiers, multifunction devices, and printers, and somebody has to keep them working. That is this job. You diagnose them, repair them, maintain them before they fail, and get them talking to the network again when they stop.
The work is mostly mechanical and partly network. A jam that keeps coming back is a worn feed roller; a device that prints but will not scan to email is a settings problem. You need to be at home on both sides of that line, or on the mechanical side and ready to learn the rest, because the technician who can fix the fuser and the scan workflow in one visit is the one clients ask for by name.
Full-time and non-exempt. Reports to the Field Services Manager.
What you would be doing
- Diagnose and repair copiers, multifunction devices, and laser printers at client sites: feed assemblies, fusers, rollers, drums, transfer belts, and the boards behind them
- Run scheduled preventive maintenance so machines get serviced before they fail, not after
- Install and configure new devices: unbox, assemble, network, load drivers, and set up printing and scan to email and scan to folder workflows
- Connect devices to client networks and print servers, and troubleshoot when a working machine stops appearing on one
- Manage the parts and consumables you carry, so the second visit for a part that should have been on hand is rare
- Work from tickets: document the diagnosis, the fix, the parts used, and the time spent, the same day
- Leave every client with the machine working, the area clean, and a plain explanation of what was wrong
What we are looking for
Required
- Hands-on experience repairing copiers, multifunction devices, or laser printers, and the ability to walk us through a diagnosis in the interview
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude: comfortable with hand tools, multimeters, service manuals, and exploded parts diagrams
- Enough networking to connect a device, assign an address, install drivers, and set up scanning, or the demonstrated ability to learn it quickly
- The temperament for field work in someone else's office: courteous, presentable, and calm with the person whose deadline the broken machine is holding up
- Accurate, same-day documentation of what you did
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to move machines on carts
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred
- Manufacturer service training or certification from Canon, Ricoh, Kyocera, Sharp, Xerox, HP, or Brother
- Managed print services experience: meter reads, supply automation, and fleet reporting
- Print server, driver deployment, and print queue troubleshooting experience
- Experience with wide format printers or production print equipment
- CompTIA A+ or similar
Where it goes
Copier and printer work sits next to everything else we do. The technician who gets comfortable with the network side of imaging equipment is standing at the door of IT support and systems work, and we pay for the training that takes people through it.
Working conditions
Field based, with daily driving to client offices across Northeast Ohio. Office environments rather than construction sites, but physical work all the same: kneeling at machines, moving equipment on carts, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Toner is part of the job, and you will wear some of it occasionally.
What everybody here gets
These come with the job, whichever job it is.
Health insurance
A group medical plan, with the company paying 50 percent of your premium. Dependents can be added at group rates.
Direct Primary Care
On top of the plan, the company pays for a membership with a primary care practice. Routine care means calling your doctor, not starting a claim.
401(k) matching
The company matches the first 3 percent of your pay dollar for dollar, then half of the next 2 percent. Put in 5 percent and the company puts in 4.
Paid time off
PTO accrues every pay period, and the rate grows with your length of service. Up to 80 hours carries into the next year.
Ten paid holidays
Six company holidays, plus four floating days a year that you choose and your supervisor schedules.
Paid weekly
Payday is every Friday, by direct deposit, for the week before. Most of this industry pays twice a month.
A schedule with some give
Eight hours inside an 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. window with a full hour for lunch. Eight to five and nine to six are both normal, and other shifts get approved.
Training and certification
Certifications paid for and time made for them, plus leadership tracks and internships.
Bereavement leave
Three paid days for an immediate family member, and one paid day for an extended family member, somebody you were close to, or a pet.
Mileage and expenses
Approved travel is reimbursed on a submitted log, and business expenses on itemized receipts. Your commute is not travel, and nobody pretends otherwise.
Donation matching
Give to a cause you care about and the company gives alongside you. What you support is yours to choose.
Referral program
Rewards for referrals, for everybody on the payroll rather than only the people in sales.
