Field Services
Network Installation and Physical Security Technician
Networks built rather than repaired, cameras that see what they were bought to see, and doors that open for the right people and nobody else. Commercial cabling, fiber, video, and access control, mostly on live construction sites. Salaried, with real paid overtime.
The job
This is a field installation role. When a client needs a network built rather than repaired, cameras that see what they were bought to see, or a door that opens for the right people and nobody else, you are the person who installs it.
Most of your work happens inside client buildings, often before their staff arrive, and often alongside electricians and general contractors on live commercial construction sites. What you leave behind will be looked at years from now by somebody who has to work on it.
Full-time and non-exempt. Reports to the Field Services Manager.
What you would be doing
Structured cabling
- Pull, terminate, and certify Cat6 and Cat6A copper, labeled at both ends to standard
- Run, terminate, and test fiber between buildings and between floors
- Build and dress equipment racks to a standard another technician can still work in years later
Physical security
- Mount, aim, and commission IP cameras, and confirm they are recording before you leave the site
- Install access control: readers, controllers, door strikes, request-to-exit devices, and the wiring behind all of it
- Test and document everything you installed before handover
Network infrastructure
- Deploy wireless access points to the survey
- Install and terminate network hardware and patch panels
On-site
- Coordinate with electricians, general contractors, and building managers on active job sites
- Spot where the drawings and the building disagree, and raise it rather than working around it
- Leave every site clean, and every installation documented
What you need
Applicants must meet all of the following.
- Three years of commercial low-voltage cabling experience. Residential-only work, or cable company installation work, is usually not enough on its own
- Demonstrated skill terminating and certifying Cat6 copper
- The ability to work from ladders and lifts, above ceilings, and in crawl spaces
- Enough networking knowledge to understand what you are connecting and why
- The ability to read project drawings, and the judgment to stop and ask when the field does not match them
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to be on your feet for a full shift
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Availability for occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work for cutovers and occupied buildings
What helps
- Fiber termination and testing, including fusion splicing. This carries a rate premium
- BICSI Installer 2 or Technician certification. This also carries a rate premium
- Experience with specific camera and access control platforms, any manufacturer
- Commercial construction site experience
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Lift certification
What good looks like in a year
- Installations that pass inspection the first time
- Racks and cable plant another technician can read immediately
- Cameras and access control that keep working without a callback
- Clients asking for you by name on the next job

What everybody here gets
These come with the job, whichever job it is.
Health insurance
A group medical plan, with the company paying 50 percent of your premium. Dependents can be added at group rates.
Direct Primary Care
On top of the plan, the company pays for a membership with a primary care practice. Routine care means calling your doctor, not starting a claim.
401(k) matching
The company matches the first 3 percent of your pay dollar for dollar, then half of the next 2 percent. Put in 5 percent and the company puts in 4.
Paid time off
PTO accrues every pay period, and the rate grows with your length of service. Up to 80 hours carries into the next year.
Ten paid holidays
Six company holidays, plus four floating days a year that you choose and your supervisor schedules.
Paid weekly
Payday is every Friday, by direct deposit, for the week before. Most of this industry pays twice a month.
A schedule with some give
Eight hours inside an 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. window with a full hour for lunch. Eight to five and nine to six are both normal, and other shifts get approved.
Training and certification
Certifications paid for and time made for them, plus leadership tracks and internships.
Bereavement leave
Three paid days for an immediate family member, and one paid day for an extended family member, somebody you were close to, or a pet.
Mileage and expenses
Approved travel is reimbursed on a submitted log, and business expenses on itemized receipts. Your commute is not travel, and nobody pretends otherwise.
Donation matching
Give to a cause you care about and the company gives alongside you. What you support is yours to choose.
Referral program
Rewards for referrals, for everybody on the payroll rather than only the people in sales.
